Ok. The short version is that I have been in recruitment and HR since 1995 and since 2009, I have had my recruitment agency.
From a jobseeker to a business owner
Now the longer version!
When I finished Uni I ended up in sales. Two years later when I was looking for a job, I faxed (yes, that’s how old I am!) my resume to a recruitment agency. It was in December 1994. I started on the 2nd January 1995. I did not know if I was going to like it. It was just a trial for me. As they say “and the rest is history”. Five years later in 2000, I got an itchy feet and decided to move to Australia. I was very keen to get formal business qualifications. Since, my science degree was not cutting it. So, I went and got an MBA and while I was studying I got back into recruitment. Now, 10 years later I am also a certified NLP Trainer and Results Coach. Life’s good!
But it was not all rosy. It took me a few years to get to know the market and what to do when I wanted to progress. If I had someone holding my hand or I had a bunch of people that I could ask for advice it would not have been so long. No matter what field you are in you always could do better with a mentor. Or at least a community where you can safely ask questions. This is precisely why I have started this blog.
